Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Connecting Cooktown State School (RTO: 30556) to Career Transitions
What is VET?
Vocational Education and Training (VET) plays an important role at Cooktown State School helping students move from school to further education, training and employment. VET qualifications are recognised nationally and are industry endorsed. These courses combine relevant knowledge and practical skills that reflect current industry standards.
As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Cooktown State School is able to deliver a range of nationally recognised training packages at Certificate I, II and III levels. Students are also able to obtain VET qualifications offered by external RTOs. These courses are studied as part of their Senior Schooling timetable.
Students enrolled in VET courses have access to the VET Student Handbook. This handbook highlights important information for students and in particular refers to the complaints and appeals policy and procedures
Cooktown State School (RTO: 30556) is currently registered to deliver the following qualifications:
Aurora Training Institute (RTO: 32237)
Binnacle Training (RTO: 30319)
TAFE Queensland (RTO: 0275)
Tallebudgera Outdoor an Environment Education Centre (RTO 30685)
Complaints and Appeals Policy and Procedures
To be compliant with Standard 6 of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 the school RTO must have a publically available
complaints and appeals policy (PDF, 121KB). Complaints or appeals should be directed to the Principal as CEO of the school:
lrayn10@eq.edu.au. Any further queries should be directed to the RTO Manager, Cherryl Perry
cperr86@eq.edu.au.
Enrolment into a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course after the start date may lead to a Statement of Attainment/s only, rather than the complete qualification. To obtain a Certificate or Qualification, all students studying a VET course must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). For more information visit: www.usi.gov.au.
School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships (SATs)
Students in Years 11 and 12 are offered opportunities to become School based Apprentices/Trainees (SATs). SATs are proving to be a valuable way for students to start their career by combining school with work and training (at Certificate II or III level).
Work experience or structured workplace learning is offered widely to students in Years 10 – 12. This regularly results in our students being offered an opportunity for a School based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SATs). All SATs students must continue to meet the requirements of the school code of behaviour and strive for continual improvement in their studies. The Guidance Officer is also available for further career advice. Any further queries should be directed to the RTO Manager, Cherryl Perry at cperr86@eq.edu.au
