Message from the Principal,
Schools have been advised that there will be 5 Student Free Days commencing the 30th March. Cooktown P-12 SS will provide teacher supervised learning at school for students from families with essential workers and vulnerable children, who are defined as:
For COVID-19 arrangements, vulnerable students include students who:
- are currently receiving services from Child Safety including children who are subject to a child protection order
- are subject to a youth justice order
For students currently attending school, and for those who have not collected already, learning resources packs are available from the front office for collection, learning will also continue to be updated on the learning@home site found at https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/learning-at-home .
For year 11 and 12 students the QCAA has given the following information:
In the next few weeks, the QCAA will provide schools with direction on how they should adjust what is taught and the nature and timing of other assessments. There will be some flexibility to accommodate the specific needs of subjects — both General and Applied — but across-the-board adjustment is necessary to ensure the assessment experience is as equitable as it can be for all students.
We will keep families updated on what these changes will mean for students across P-12 and significantly for years 11 and 12.
The school tuckshop will be closed from 30 March for the Student Free Days. No food can be purchased during the Student Free Days.
In the next week, the staff at Cooktown P-12 SS be working on ways to ensure students will be engaged in learning during term 2 in this uncertain time. We will also continue to update you around any changes to processes through our Website, Notice Board and Facebook. The current situation is that schools will be opening at the end of the school holidays, the 20th April 2020.
I encourage you all to continue to observe social distancing practices as per the Queensland Health information and ensure students who remain home are following all the Government requirements.
Please do not hesitate to call the school office if you have any questions.
Yours faithfully,
Leanne Rayner
