Junior secondary


This year, Cooktown State School P-12 Year 7 and 9 junior secondary students will be participating in the annual National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The NAPLAN tests this year will take place at the Cooktown PCYC on Tuesday the 15th of May, Wednesday the 16th of May, and Thursday the 17th of May.

A timetable for the tests is outlined below:

​Session 1       Language Conventions Test
(45 minutes)
Reading Test
(65 minutes)
Numeracy Test
(60 minutes)
​Session 2 Writing Test
(40 minutes)

Please read the NAPLAN Information Sheet for Parents, created by ACARA, (the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reportity Authority), the body that oversees the NAPLAN tests. It explains the purpose of the NAPLAN tests, how each student’s performance is measured, and how the NAPLAN test results are used. I encourage you to read the accompanying sheet, and contact me if you have any further questions.

If any parents wish to withdraw their child from the NAPLAN tests for philosophical or religious reasons, they are to contact me as soon as possible and complete a Record of parent withdrawal form (available only at school, and to be completed with me).
