Welcome to Cooktown State School's P-12 website. This site is designed to provide general information about our school and to direct visitors to our contact details.
Our school is first and foremost a place of learning. All activities at Cooktown State School are undertaken with this in mind. The school provides an excellent opportunity for our students in the Cooktown area, based on a strong Indigenous and European history, the outstanding natural environment, a dedicated staff and a learning rich curriculum, central to the Bound for Success strategy.
Through a team approach, we are building on and strengthening the areas of: • Development and actioning of both short and long term planning. • Improvement in academic achievement including Year 2 Net, Year 3, 5, 7 Tests (and yr 9 this year) and the number of year 12 students gaining an OP score or VET certificate. • An enriched P-9 curriculum based on the Bound for Success "Scope and Sequence" document. • Broader curriculum choices in our Senior School to support the school’s Service Commitment and the reality that our students could be employed in the local area, Australia or in fact in another country. • Consistent behaviour management structured around expectations and responsibilities that supports learning for all. • Recognition and celebration of the ongoing positive work our students, staff, parents, interagency links and community deliver to foster a shared pride. • Enhanced relationships with the community based on mutual understanding and trust to foster confidence in public education through improved communication.
Cooktown P-12 is focused on aspirations, outcomes and successes for all students. There is a positive, proactive approach to learning in our classrooms, a dedicated, professional staff, a passionate P&C and parents who like all parents want the best education for their children.
Hook into learning and reel in opportunities!
